The program provides refuge for your confidential data, but only when it's dismounted. SafeGuard PrivateDisk starts well with a step-by-step wizard that walks you through the process of generating virtual drives.

With the wizard, you easily set the size and letter of the drive, file system, and enable password protection. While the program is running, the virtual drive is treated like any Windows drive. That makes it convenient to use it from most programs, perform common file-managment tasks, and share it over a network. A caveat: other users can access mounted drives without entering the password. It's easy to mount and dismount virtual drives via the program's tray icon, though hot keys would be nice.

Hello: Just wondering will I still be able to access the contents of my SecureDrive.vol after restoring my T60 to the original factory condition? Right now I cannot access the contents of SecureDrive.vol The only way I can log onto laptop is via safe mode and the secure drive is no longer mounting automatically for some reason. I wish I can manually mount the secure drive but SafeGuard PrivateDisk keeps asking for admin password, which I don't have because it was randomly generated by the system.

However, please understand the position I am in; I am looking for a way to recover my files (which I find them important enough to keep in securedrive.vol) but now no longer have access to them because my thinkpad suddenly decides to stop working. I do not care how the securedrive.vol admin pwds are generated. I have all my windows passwords, passphrase pwd, bios pwd, finger prints scanned yet I still cannot retrieve my files from securedrive.vol in my circumstance. The one thing I want to know is why isn't securedrive.vol mounted under windows safe mode???. I called Lenovo tech support and they told me that they only handle hardware, not software issue like this. I called Utimaco but they don't care.

Currently, I am just researching what options are available for me to recover my files in securedrive.vol. He did not ask about his operating system or the regular files he uses everyday this is about the SECURE MOUNTED VOLUME ONLY., when we try to mount the volume (as I read his earlier post, he and I are having the same problem) the securedrive.vol asks for a password, this password was NOT generated by the user, it was generated by CSS (client secure storage) application so the password is NOT KNOWN how do users who no longer have access to the very important files stored in the SECUREDRIV.VOL file mount the file to access it, without the password?

Is there a way to un-encrypt this file or to mount it? Or to reset the password? PCMaximum, I think he mis-understood that the OP had already used system restore and had wiped the internal drive (my interpretation of what was posted) and he was trying to advise against doing that, and advancing the belieft that the password was not generated by the system, but rather an admin user. Seeing your similar situation 2 years later, I've asked our engineering team to look into this. UPDATE: Engineering will need to know what version of CSS you are using and what version safeguard private disk.

Right now i am asked for the disk administrator password which i do not have since it was generated by CSS i know each and every other password: BIOS, Windows, CSS password etc; i also have enrolled my fingerprints but i cannot find a way to reset my disk password.

Bluehunt: This issue is 3 years old for me but here is what I recall: my laptop T60 crashed; cannot log onto windows normally; only safe mode. Unfortunately in safe mode, secure drive is not mounted; therefore i am locked out of my files in the secure drive.

[DISCLAIMER - proceed at your own risk] However, I was able to access the files in secure drive by: * save copy of secure drive file offine * perform a factory restore on T60 using EXACTLY the same parameters as before for everything (username, passwords, computer name, etc.) * recreate the secure drive using CSS and then replacing the new secure drive file with the old one (ie. Manually unmount it, replace secure drive file, restart laptop so CSS will automatically mount it again) I guess, as it turns out, the version of CCS on my T60 uses one or several of my input parameters during laptop setup to generate the password for the secure drive file. I don't remember what CSS version my laptop had though. Again, DISCLAIMER. Because your laptop has a different CSS version than my old T60, I have no idea if this will work for you. Anyways, hope you are able to get a hold of your files.
